Regular dental checkups are essential for anyone who wants to maintain positive oral health. We recommend visiting our practice once every six months for this reason. During these visits, our professional team will examine your teeth and soft oral tissues for any problems or issues that may have developed. We also provide a thorough cleaning of the teeth in order to remove any harmful buildups and accumulations. By practicing proper oral hygiene and visiting us twice a year for a checkup, a patient is providing themselves with the best chance of maintaining positive oral health.
At Envision a Smile, we provide a full examination, a professional cleaning, digital and traditional X-rays (when necessary), and an oral cancer screening with every regular checkup.
A thorough examination gives us a chance to inspect a patient’s teeth for any problems or issues that may have developed or progressed since their last visit. We use special dental tools that allow us to look at your mouth closely. This provides us with a much better look than what the patient can achieve at home with a simple mirror. If any issues are found, we will make recommendations to the patient based on our findings. Some of the issues that are commonly detected include cavities, tooth decay, unwanted tooth shifts and gum disease.
Over time, bacteria, tartar and plaque will accumulate inside the mouth. While this is completely normal, these buildups must be removed to prevent them from causing any serious damage. This is typically done at home with standard brushing and flossing. However, some buildups cannot be properly reached that way. That is where a professional cleaning comes in. Our experts will use advanced tools to scrape away any buildups from the teeth. From there, the teeth are cleansed and polished to remove surface stains and any remaining bacteria.
Digital and Traditional X-Rays
Oral X-rays are very important for getting a proper look at the hidden areas of a patient’s mouth. Many oral health issues can only be detected in this way. Some of the oral health conditions that can be uncovered with X-rays include tooth decay, gum disease, jawbone deterioration, cysts and oral cancer.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer is very serious, and it is best treated when it is detected early. That is why our team always takes the time to provide a proper oral cancer screening for every patient. During this process, we check the patient’s tongue, face, gums throat and soft oral tissues for any signs or symptoms of cancer.
Every patient should visit us once every six months for a regular dental checkup. We welcome both new and returning patients. Please call us at 630-454-8166 to schedule an appointment.
